Snapvent Plastics was started in 1940 by Burton Simcox. It originally started out of his house and grew into a business address on Cumberland Avenue across from the Atlantic Ice Company here in Knoxville. At the time we were located in the UT area and we sold acrylic plastics, and carried metal working, wood working, models, beads, basketry and chair seating supplies, and other types of crafts.

In 1941 Ella Easterday joined the company as Burton’s secretary. Mrs. Easterday eventually grew into a business partner with Burton in various enterprises, but continued to serve as secretary and Asst. Manager for many years.

Later on her son Charles Easterday, after moving back to Knoxville,  joined the business in 1967 and became Head of Sales and Shop Manager. In 1989 when Burton passed away, Mrs. Easterday retired to continue to oversee her other business interests and Charles Easterday took over the business.

In late 1980 Michael Easterday, Charles’ son, came to work for the company and in 1990 took over the roll of Assistant Manager to his father’s ownership. In 2005 when Charles retired Michael took over the ownership of the business and still owns and operates it to this day.

Snapvent Plastics stayed at our first location for 40 years, until the World’s Fair entered Knoxville in 1980 and the city required our property on Cumberland for development at that time. We then purchased the land for our present location and constructed our building and moved in. We have now been at 147 West Baxter Avenue for 38 years, and are still going strong and supplying materials to the southeastern region.

Snapvent Plastics was the first Plexiglas distributor south of the Mason Dixon line. In the 1950’s we changed material lines to American Cyanamid, now called Evonik CYRO, and have sold their material ever since. Throughout the years we have stayed true to the plastics industry, and greatly widened our distributorship for the types of plastic materials we handle; and for crafts we continue to this day with the basketry and chair seating supplies.

We would like to thank all our customers throughout the years who by offering us the chance to serve them have kept us busy and made us sucessful. Our mission statement remains the same to this day. Supply the best materials and service possible, for the best price. We look forward to many more years of serving the southeastern region.
